Notes from a Jobseeker
Many of us job seekers find ourselves in an unusual state of employment uncertainty. The field is crowded with many highly skilled folks and there is a high level of competition for the limited jobs available.
As is often the case, I'm diverging from the conventional path and find myself in a distinctive position within the job search realm: I'm seeking to reintegrate into a team after running my own business for more than a decade. Unconventional is putting it mildly. I’m a conundrum to many of the recruiters I’ve spoken to.
During this transition, I've had some remarkably positive interactions and interviews. It's heartening to see certain organizations and individuals who are implementing thoughtful, equitable hiring practices, and I want to acknowledge and commend them for their efforts.
Then there are the ones who have missed the mark. For the purposes of this post we will be focusing there for the time being, as they are much more entertaining to write about. Here, in random order, are some interactions and things that I’ve been told in the last 14 months on the job market.
